SPOOLER is the BEST print spooler program around, bar none! It
utilizes Expanded (EMMS) memory, and can be dynamically adjusted from
64K to up to 8 Meg buffer space. It can be loaded with your
autoexec.bat file, or manually loaded any time. The only stipulation
is that you MUST have a valid EMMS driver loaded PRIOR to invoking
SPOOLER, and you must have available EMS memory. It will work with
either LIM 3.2 or LIM 4.x specification. IT WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY
WITH SIMULATED EMMS MEMORY!!!!!! (EG: LIMSIM, etc.)
INSTALLATION:
SPOOLER LPTx:yyy[K][M]
x = Printer number 1,2,3, or 4
y = Size of desired buffer in (K)ilobytes or (M)egabytes
SPOOLER LPT1:64K will install spooler on LPT1 with a 64K buffer
SPOOLER LPT2:1M will install spooler on LPT2 with a 1 Mb buffer
SPOOLER LPT1:0K will disable the spooler on printer 1.
USE:
Once installed, SPOOLER is basically automatic. Any data
directed to the printer on which SPOOLER is installed, will be
spooled and handled by spooler. As soon as the job is output to
SPOOLER, the CPU is freed and the computer may be used for other
tasks while the printing job continues to completion. Of course,
shutting off the computer, destroys SPOOLER's buffers and contents,
and ends the printing job wherever it happens to be!
HOTKEY:
The PRINTSCREEN key is the SPOOLER hotkey. Hitting this
key invokes an overlayed menu which allows you to do several things
with the buffer. You may PAUSE the job, END the job, issue a
FORMFEED to the printer, view the STATUS of the job and DISABLE
SPOOLER from this menu. Once the requested action is completed, the
menu will disappear and the screen will be restored exactly as it
existed before the menu was invoked. To use your PRINTSCREEN key
normally, without invoking the SPOOLER menu, use SHIFT-PRINTSCREEN.
Please note: Most printers have a small hardware buffer
internally. Therefore, when you terminate SPOOLER, the printer may
continue printing until it exhausts whatever is still remaining in
it's own buffer.
NOTE: SPOOLER may be installed up to 4 individual times
simultaneously! If you have 4 printers online as LPT1, LPT2, LPT3
and LPT4, then each may have a SPOOLER of it's own installed. They
will not conflict with each other and will maintain data integrity
between the printer buffers. You cannot, however, drive all 4
printers simultaneously! In other words, you must print the buffers
singly to their respective printers.
